GRANT WAKEFIELD

Wakefield began his career working as a freelancer in various disciplines including focus puller, gaffer and camera operator. In 1994 he gained a place at the NORTHERN SCHOOL OF FILM AND TELEVISION where he trained as a cinematographer, working on 11 films, including 4 as Director of Photography, and earning a Post Graduate Diploma in Film Production. Immediately after graduation Wakefield received a wild card entry to the THIRD EUROPEAN MASTERCLASS FOR CINEMATOGRAPHY STUDENTS, held in Budapest, where he trained under Billy Williams BSC and Vilmos Zsigmond ASC.

On his return to the UK he landed his first job as a focus puller on a 35mm feature. He then began a long association with London based MUSO PRODUCTIONS, focus pulling and camera operating on 16mm and 35mm commercials, tour films and pop promos for bands including THE PRODIGY and ORBITAL. In 1998 Wakefield commenced work on his own broadcast DV documentary project CROPPIES, as well as helming 2nd Unit Cinematography for the UK’s first ever 8 perf. 70mm production ‘LOST KINGDOM.’ His enduring fascination with large format has seen him attend seven IMAX film conferences worldwide.

In April of 1999 Wakefield travelled to Baghdad to shoot a news piece for SANDMAN PRODUCTIONS about the impact of sanctions, and later created THE FIRE THIS TIME, a 77 minute audio CD that chronicled the fate of Iraq, released in 2002 to critical acclaim. Since the album’s completion he has continued to work as a DoP, Glidecam operator, Editor and Gaffer on features, corporates, tour videos, shorts, documentaries and educational films. GLENN MARSHALL

Glenn Marshall is an experimental computer animator whose career began at EXPERIENCE DESIGN Ltd in 1994, where he developed software and animations for 3-D computer games. In 1997 Marshall was invited by THE NERVE CENTRE in Derry to supervise the CGI for their forthcoming 35mm animated short ‘THE KING’S WAKE’ where he designed pioneering techniques of compositing 2-D cell animation with 3-D graphics. The film went on to win the Best Animation Award at the 2001 Celtic Film & Television Festival.

Returning to Belfast in 2000 Marshall joined a new company, DREAM IRELAND, through which he was able to gain funding from the Irish Film Board to produce his first short ‘BUTTERFLY’. The film was a huge success worldwide, picking up 3 major international awards including the Audience Vote at the Brooklyn International Film Festival, and it played in over 30 festivals on the global circuit. Two further short films for the IFB followed: MANNEQUIN and LOTUS, and in 2003 the prestigious NEXUS PRODUCTIONS in London signed Marshall into their highly regarded stable of animation directors. In just over a year with NEXUS, he directed short films, music videos and TV commercials for PANASONIC, NINJATUNE RECORDS, GUINNESS and PETER GABRIEL.

The soundtracks he created for his own works also gained the attention of Northern Ireland’s DOUBLEBAND FILMS, and Marshall received commissions to compose the scores for several of their documentaries. In 2004 Marshall and business partner Hugh McGrory formed MAKE FILMS Ltd in Belfast, which is rapidly gaining a reputation for being one of Ireland’s most cutting-edge production outfits.

GLENN MARSHALL is exclusively signed to COMMERCIALS UNLIMITED, London.
